Here’s a recipe I got from a friend for soft, irresistible dog treats. They are modified to be wheat-free and natural! Wheat-free treats are healthier for dogs; many breeds have wheat allergies and studies show dogs don’t process wheat they way we do and it may actually be bad for them. Homemade dog treats are a great way to show your dog how much you love them as much as they love you. Besides being much healthier than store-bought treats, pups will gobble them up! Try these Honey Delight dog treats for your pooch during this holiday season. Don’t be surprised if humans in your house try to sneak a few 🙂
3 cups oats, plain
1 cup rice flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 cup organic honey
3/4 cup organic applesauce
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon flax seed oil (not necessary but great for skin)
*Check out a list of wheat flour substitutes and measurements here.
>>Preheat oven to 375 F.
>>Puree oats in food processor
>>Mix oats, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves together.
>>In larger bowl, add egg, honey, applesauce, brown sugar and flax seed oil together and stir until well mixed.
>>Pour flour mixture in this and stir until evenly mixed, adding water or rice flour if necessary.
>>Mold with hands to form round treats. For best results, try treats no larger than 2 in. Keep in mind the bigger the treats, the longer they need to bake.
>>Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden. Cool at least 15 minutes before serving.
