Leash Training Sundays

We have been leash training Scarlett and Chelsea separately until now. Scarlett came to us terrified of leashes and always refuses to leave the yard when she’s on-leash. With consistency, she’s getting better but it’s always a struggle to get her to take the first step off our property. With this in mind, we decided to do Chelsea’s leash training separately so she doesn’t develop any bad habits. Lucky Harley gets to come on double the walks since he’s trained πŸ™‚ Well…Scarlett and Chelsea have been doing so well with their training, we decided to take them on their first walk all together today. It was very exciting and we forgot some of our prior training (pulling!) but overall, everyone did great! If you read about Scarlett’s accident Friday night, then you see she is feeling much better! Here are some pictures from the walk around the neighborhood.

We hope you had a wonderful Sunday and weekend as well. We are going to continue to walk them together since they did remarkably. We’ve come a long way from Scarlett gluing herself to the ground and Chelsea trying to run for cover in every bush within reach.

How did you train your dogs to walk properly on-leash? We’d love to hear your tips!

  1. I’m glad it went well today. you’ve done good!

  2. Looks like they all had fun.

  3. Well done! It’s great to see Scarlett and Chelsea walking well together.

  4. Looks like they did great! When walking the 2 brown dawgs together, they always wanted to pull. One wanted to be ahead of the other. So we took them to obedience class together in preparation for the Canine Good Citizen test. I trained Storm and my husband had Thunder. They had to work on heel in proximity to one another and the instructor was there with helpful hints. It worked very well for us. πŸ™‚

  5. Thanks! Unfortunately it’s been raining since I got home from work so we haven’t been able to get out but maybe we’ll get a late-night walk in πŸ™‚
2browndawgs, we sometimes have that problem when Scarlett gets comfortable enough and wants to compete with Harley. I love that your pups have their CGC’s– we would love to do that with our pups when Scarlett is ready for that phase and when we have some the proper training time πŸ™‚

  6. That’s great news – so happy you can all go out on adventures together now!!

    Have fun,

    Your pal Snoopy πŸ™‚
